The School of Education – Supporting Teacher Education Programs and Center for Sensory and Complex Disabilities collaborated on a professional development workshop for 25 para professionals from South Hunterdon Regional School District
On Friday, March 11, 2022,Danielle Sweeney and Kelly Reymann of the Center for Sensory and Complex Disabilities worked with Dr. Jerry G. Petroff to facilitate “A Good Beginning”, a morning filled with self-reflection activities and strategies to apply to their day-to-day life, both in and out of the classroom. Some of the activities included: laying the foundation of the roles and responsibilities of a paraeducator, learning more about the diverse personality types of the students and teachers they support, validating the MANY HATS that are worn throughout any given day, while walking away with a more clear understanding of their own strengths, communication styles and contributions. By lunchtime; confidence was built, rapports were established and many walked away with “tools in their toolbox” to draw from throughout the rest of the school year.
